As I have previously reported there was a lot more going on at the recent G-8 Summit than just talk about global economics. As I had pointed out before, US President Obama spent some of his “free time” in closed door sessions with Russia’s President Medvedev. Remember when Obama campaigned against US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and then as president he sent more troops into Afghanistan followed by declaring victory in Iraq and promising to have all troops home by the end of 2011. Now, in a blatant disregard for his pledge to America, the Army Times is reporting that Obama plans to send thousands more troops to Iraq as the promised deadline looms. According to this report more than 7,170 soldiers will deploy to Iraq beginning in mid-summer. This deployment will include an army division headquarters of 775 soldiers and two combat brigades totaling 6,400 troops, according to a US Defense Department announcement. The big question is what is Obama planning now? According to information coming from Obama’s meeting with Medvedev the US president intends to unleash a “summer war” against Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). From all appearances the US is about to take sides in the religious Islamic split between the Sunnis and the Shias. Most have not taken note that the first two Obama wars were to defeat the Persian Shite nation’s most feared opponents, the Sunni Bathist led Iraq and the Taliban in Afghanistan. Add to this the Obama administration’s reluctance to help the Iranian people’s fight for democracy or to stop their development of nuclear weapons. What seems to be unnerving Obama is the GCC and its support of the Sunni leaders involved in the “Arab Spring.” It has been reported that the Saudis are preparing for war with Iran and are expanding their Arab Alliance to include Indonesia, the largest Muslim nation in the world, Malaysia and Pakistan. Also, Saudi Arabia’s personal anger at Obama stems from the American’s refusal to support the deposed Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak who now languishes in prison with his two sons under threat of death by firing squad for his ordering the killing of unarmed protesters. Fueling Obama’s fears even more, sources say, are that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons would be used in this conflict. This is critical since the Americans have now lost their ability to monitor their locations after being ordered out of the country as tensions between these two former allies escalate by the day. Needless to say oil is also a major reason for Obama’s actions at this time, he is afraid of losing access to the vast oil reserves that Saudi Arabia holds. By defeating Saudi Arabia and the GCC he would have access to all of the Middle East’s oil, but if Saudi and the GCC defeat Iran then Obama and the US would have to supply their own oil. The Saudi overture in Pakistan is a sign of how diplomatic friction in two distinct regions, the Middle East on one hand and Afghanistan and Pakistan on the other, could make it harder for the US to pursue its published goals of ending the conflict in Afghanistan, stabilizing the nuclear-armed Pakistan, limiting Iran’s power and keeping a lid on the violent turmoil throughout the Middle East. How long will the American people allow this president to meddle in other nations affairs and continue to commit its young men and women to combat without congressional approval? It is time the people of the United States stand up and state: “It is enough!”
